Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) is a kind of non-ionic macromolecule compound, which is the most characteristic of N-vinylamide polymers, and has been studied the deepest and widest variety of fine chemicals. It has developed into a series of homopolymers, copolymers and crosslinked polymers with non-ionic, cationic and anionic properties, industrial, pharmaceutical and food grade specifications and molecular weight ranging from thousands to more than one million, and has been widely used for its excellent and unique properties.
On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily sorted out. Polyvinylpyrrolidone was included in the list of three types of carcinogens.
PVP is divided into four grades according to its average molecular weight. It is customary to express PVP in terms of K value. Different K values represent the corresponding average molecular weight range of PVP. K value is actually the characteristic value related to the relative viscosity of PVP aqueous solution, and the viscosity is the physical quantity related to the molecular weight of polymer, so K value can be used to characterize the average molecular weight of PVP. Generally, the higher the K value, the higher the viscosity and the stronger the adhesion.
